DESCRIPTION:
Award-winning, great night-out specialists Not Too Tame invite you to their new production THE SOCIAL. The company that brought you A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Shakespeare North Playhouse and sell-out tours of CINDERELLA, EARLY DOORS, ELECTRIC EDEN return with a show that celebrates all things community, clubland and Wigan Casino’s Northern Soul.
The Social uses Northern Soul (“the dance movement that refused to die”) as a highly charged vehicle to tell the stories of Wigan’s community those who will forever ‘KEEP THE FAITH’. This heartwarming show doffs its cap to the challenges of the last few years and looks at what we need to do to push on to a better future. So get your glad rags on for a dance floor full of fun, fancy footwork and family feuds. It’s an immersive, site-specific show in a real local boozer.
The cast includes the incredible Sally Molloy, who was crowned World Northern Soul Dance Champion in 2022 so audiences can expect authentic dancing and music to get lost in. Sally has an ever-growing fan base across social media and has appeared on Craig Charles’ Funk and Soul show with her singing. Sally’s unique story of winning the title will be told in the show. We will be holding open auditions across the region in order to recruit the final roles for the production.

Tough on the outside, big heart. Grown up in a working-class background. Had to grow up early. Maternal. Runs the Social club. She is passionate about Northern Soul as her Grandad introduced her to everything Northern Soul and left her all his vinyl. Emotionally intelligent, street smart and doesn't suffer fools gladly. Has an on-and-off relationship with DJ Dessy.
We are looking for artists who have some form of professional training and/or professional credits.
GREG
Age: 18-65

From the North
“Happy to help!” Innocent, social outsider, constantly positive, kind and generous to a fault. Always eager to please and support where he can. Tries his best but rarely succeeds. Has just started his job as a community support officer.

The auditions will take the form of group auditions which will take place in 2 parts. The first hour and 15 will be a group audition working from Not Too Tame’s core methodology where you will work with your audition monologue piece. If we think that you may be right for the role, we will ask you to stay for another hour and 15 for a dance lesson with Northern Soul world champion Sally Molloy and a singing session. *If we do not ask you to go through to the 2nd session, this does not mean you weren't brilliant - it means you're just not quite right for the role this time.
